چکیده

In the present study, isothermal decomposition of austenite to bainite in 1.0 wt% carbon, 0.21% silicon steel during partitioning step a quenching and (Q&P) heat treatment has been investigated dilatometer temperature range 200 350 °C compared conventional austempering treatment. The transformation was shortened by about 75% presence pre-existing martensite (QP). kinetics is described well-known Avrami equation. calculated parameter ‘n’ equation shows that forms absence (TT) at constant nucleate rate, while martensite, nucleation interface controlled. overall activation energy, equation, ranges from 64 110 kJ/mol. outcomes this investigation provide guidelines for development multiphase microstructures, including high-carbon low-silicon steel, within an industrially acceptable time scale mechanical performance.

Color metallography; a suitable method for characterization of martensite and bainite in multiphase steels

Color metallography is a useful method for characterizing microstructures of steels with multiple phases. In this paper, application of three different color etching techniques for a bainitic-martensitic steel is reported. Comparisons between the results showed that 10% Na2S2O5 aqueous solution was the best etchant for distinguishing martensite, bainite and ferr...

Kinetics of the bainite transformation

A theory is developed for the evolution of bainite as a function of time, temperature, chemical composition and austenite grain size. The model takes into account the details of the mechanism of transformation, including the fact that nucleation begins at the austenite grain surfaces, and that the growth of a sheaf occurs by the repeated nucleation of small platelets. Predictions made using the...

Bainite transformation kinetics Part 2 Non-uniform distribution of carbon

The carbon concentration trapped in films of austenite between parallel platelets of bainite is often found to be much larger than that in the larger blocks of austenite between sheaves of bainite. The effect of this non-uniform distribution of carbon on the overall transformation kinetics of bainite is examined theoretically. It is found that the trapping of carbon in the films of austenite ac...

Influence of Tempering on the Microstructure & Properties of Martensite and Bainite developed in a Low-C High-Si Steel

Martensitic and bainitic steels are two types of widely used steels with excellent mechanical behaviors in automatic industry. It’s universally acknowledged that asquenched martensite possesses poor ductility and impact toughness, which should be tempered before putting into application. During tempering, as-quenched martensite changes from a hard and brittle microstructure to more ductile and ...
